Art That Speaks is a public art exhibition featuring artwork by Guatemalan-born artist, Clemente Sajquiy alongside an installation of hand made lawn signs that address questions of freedom, trust, community and social justice. The exhibition is free and open to the public from October 1 through November 15, 2018, with a Reception on Monday, October 8, 4-6pm.

The show is hosted by www.walkunafraid.org, and is part of the extensive For Freedoms 50 State Initiative (the largest art collaboration in US history) Walk Unafraid’s ART THAT SPEAKS exhibition amplifies the voices of immigrants and people of color in the Berkshires to acknowledge and commit to changing the systems of oppression and marginalization that continue to exist both socially and politically today, and to celebrate the many ways they contribute to enriching our communities.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Alford-Egremont Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

WALK UNAFRAID is a global movement that empowers the powerless, gives voice to the voiceless, and connects humanity in inclusive, uplifting ways. We are committed to empowering individuals and communities to create social change through shared stories, active listening, and peaceful action. WALK UNAFRAID offers interactive art programs, workshops, and tools for schools, businesses, community groups and social service agencies around the country, working together to build safer, more inclusive communities where everyone can walk unafraid.
A portion of proceeds from this exhibition will support Walk Unafraid’s public programming.

FOR FREEDOMS: A national movement across all 50 states, For Freedoms is a platform for greater participation in the arts and in civic life. Inspired by Norman Rockwell’s paintings of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s’ Four Freedoms – freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear – For Freedoms believes citizenship is defined by participation, not by ideology. Through a network of artists and institutional partners who produce nationwide public art installations, exhibitions, and local community dialogues that emphasizes public discourse and discussion of values, place, and patriotism, For Freedoms encourages new forums of discourse such as this WALK UNAFRAID event.
